Sweet & Savory Bacon Wrapped Asparagus

Asparagus has always been one of the top vegetables in our house and we love it anyway it can be fixed. But our absolute favorite is when you wrap it in bacon and grill it! After all, bacon makes everything better, right?

Asparagus is typically available year-round but is considered “in-season” from February to June. April is it’s peak month and when you’ll find the best prices. It’s a versatile vegetable that can be seasoned with a variety of spices and cheeses.

Can I make this in the oven?

Yes! Prepare your skewers as listed below. Preheat your oven to 400°F and lay the skewers on a baking sheet. Bake until the bacon is crisp, approximately 25 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time.

Onto the tasty recipe:

Ingredients & Tools:

  • 1 dozen skewers, soaked in warm water
  • 1 pound of fresh asparagus, washed & cut into thirds
  • 1 pound of hickory-smoked bacon, cut into fourths
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground mustard
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • ½ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Instructions:

Soak your skewers in warm water for at least ten minutes. This will prevent them from charring or catching fire.

Wash your asparagus and trim the ends off. Cut into thirds.

Slice your bacon into fourths.

In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar, smoked paprika, ground mustard, cumin, coriander, and cayenne pepper together.

Dip each piece of bacon in the seasoning mixture. Wrap around a piece of asparagus and slide onto the skewer. I put approximately six to eight pieces on each of my skewers.

Grill the skewers for approximately ten to twelve minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes.

Remove from the grill and enjoy!
